This study discussed the proximate composition, nutritional properties, amino acid profile and antiamylase activity of royal jelly, propolis and bee bread. Royal jelly, bee bread and propolis have lower protein and lipid and more sugar than soybeans and eggs. Soybeans have the highest energy, followed by bee bread, propolis, royal jelly and eggs. Eggs have the highest protein digestibility, followed by royal jelly, bee bread, soybeans and propolis. The primary amino acids in bee bread, royal jelly and propolis are proline, glycine, lysine, alanine, aspartic acid, serine, glutamic acid, threonine, arginine, leucine, tyrosine, phenylalanine, histidine, b-aminobutyric acid, valine, asparagine and methionine. Amino acids from royal jelly, propolis and bee bread inhibited amylase by increasing Km/Vmax and decreasing Vmax and Km through un-competitive or non-competitive strategies. Molecular docking, ultraviolet absorption and fluorescence quenching analysis showed that amino acids interact with amylase structure at the allosteric site through van der Waals interactions and hydrogen bonds. Bee products can be used as food supplements, ingredients and medications to manage diabetes by inhibiting amylase.

Urease found in the cytoplasm of plants is in hexamer structure, that is, it contains 6 identical chains; In bacteria, it is known to contain 2 or 3 different subunits. In order for the urease enzyme to be active, it must bind to the Ni 2＋ ion 3) . Tyrosinase enzyme is an oxidoreductases group. The tyrosinase Abstract: Flavonoid compounds are a group of polyphenolic molecules that are in vegetables, fruit, and grain. Laboratory studies and epidemiological investigations have indicated diverse beneficial biochemical properties of flavonoids, including anticancer, anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, and anti-osteoporosis. We have recorded results for the 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) Reductase and urease enzymes at the µM level. In this search, inhibition results of Panicolin on HMG-CoA reductase and tyrosinase enzymes recorded lower values of 113.98±14.38 and 2.57±0.20 µg /mL, respectively. Additionally, inhibition results of Panicolin on urease and α-amylase showed good values of 64.20±7.43 and 15.92±2.81 µg/mL, respectively. The chemical activities of panicolin against α-amylase, urease, tyrosinase, and HMG-CoA reductase, were determined by performing the molecular modeling study. The anti-cancer activities of panicolin were investigated against HL-60, THP-1, K562, and Molt-4 cell lines and IC50 values of Panicolin on these cell lines were obtained 12.94±1.04, 63.17±5.81, 15.05±1.02, and 10.84±0.65 µg/mL, respectively.The chemical activities of this compound against some of the expressed surface receptor proteins (Plateletactivating factor receptor, CD13, transferrin receptor, and CD44) in the cell lines were evaluated using molecular modeling calculations. The results revealed the possible interactions and their features at an atomic level. The docking scores suggested that panicolin has a significant binding affinity to the enzymes and proteins. Moreover, this compound constructed strong contacts with the enzymes and receptors. Therefore, panicolin could be a potential inhibitor for enzymes and cancer cells.

This study evaluated the relative abundance of proximate, mineral, and phytochemical constituents of the anatomical parts of Xylopia aethiopica (XA) fruit using standard analytical procedures. The results showed that whole fruits (WF) have higher contents of crude protein, crude fiber, fat, ash, and moisture than the seeds (S) and pericarps (P). However, highest contents of crude carbohydrate and nitrogen free extracts were found in the P, followed by the S. The content of minerals (sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, iron, zinc, magnesium, and copper) and phytochemicals were present in the following order of abundance: WF>S>P. Furthermore, the phytochemical constituents in each XA parts were present in the following order of relative abundance: total flavonoids>tannins>total phenolics>cardiac glycoside>alka-loids>steroids. Vitamin A was abundant in all three parts, with the abundance highest in WF [4.83±0.06 g vitamin A equivalent (vit A eq)/100 g] and lowest in P (1.64±0.02 g vit A eq/100 g). This preliminary study indicates XA fruits are rich in minerals, anti-nutrients, and phytochemicals. Therefore, these data could represent a biochemical rationale for inclusion of XA as a spice or functional ingredient in many Nigerian local soups to help prevent ailments.
