Exploring power consumption reduction in centralized radio access for energy‐efficient centralized‐Internet of Things implementation

Abstract: The advent of new wireless and Internet of Things (IoT) technology has increased the dependency on the cellular base stations (BS). The rapid growth in IoT and wireless devices impinges many challenges on cellular services providers and manufacturers. The Centralized Radio Access Network is an energy and cost-efficient solution for the next-generation BS architecture. In this article, we have proposed a centralized-IoT (C-IoT) architecture based on centralized BS (C-BS). We evaluated different base station tec… Show more

“…The ASUS aims to minimize power wastage by adaptively activating and deactivating equipment in the DC as the need arises. Thus, the ASUS is modelled as an optimization problem, and the model equation is expressed as: The constraint (22) indicates that the power consumed by equipment 𝑞 cannot exceed the rated power consumption for an equipment in the DC. Constraint (23) indicates that the inter-arrival time (∆𝑡) must not exceed two hours.…”

“…In every field of research, energy efficiency is the core issue. [7][8][9][10][11] Energy consumption of data centers is expected to double every 5 years. 12 Increasing energy consumption in data centers is not only becoming critical issue for service providers as it is an important factor in operational expenditures, it is also catching attention of environment watchdogs.…”
