Remote sensing is employed to detect potential gold reserves in the study. • The research facilitates comprehension of structural geology and its mapping. • FOPCA and aeromagnetic techniques are utilized for advanced interpretation. • GIS modeling enhances the understanding of zones with mineral prospects.This study presents a comprehensive investigation utilizing remote sensing data and aerogeophysical datasets to identify potential economic gold mineralization sites in Zungeru, North-Central Nigeria. The research objectives include understanding the structural setting, mapping lithologic contacts, and detecting hydrothermally altered zones. Spatial suitability analysis was conducted on processed datasets. Feature-Oriented Principal Component Analysis (Crosta approach) was applied to selected Landsat 8 OLI imagery bands for mapping hydroxyl and iron oxide alterations. Additionally, regional topographic lineaments were mapped using SRTM DEM, and subsurface lineaments were identified using aeromagnetic data. Interpretation of the aeromagnetic data revealed complex anomalies associated with various structural characteristics, such as faults, folds, and fractures. The investigation of hydrothermal alteration zones through gamma-ray spectrometry data and K/eTh ratio analysis demonstrated a significant connection with igneous intrusions, further supported by ternary maps of the radioelements. Five thematic maps representing factors that control gold mineralization were integrated using GIS modeling to identify prospective zones. Five distinct mineral-prospective zones are delineated, showing varying levels of mineralization potential. The "Very Good" to "Good" zones are predominantly aligned in the NNE direction, with some occurrence in the NW quadrant. The spatial correlation with lithological characteristics and lineament features suggests their strong influence on mineral prospectivity. Around 76% of gold mineralization is within the most favorably projected zones.Both models show considerable reliability, with predictive accuracies surpassing 70%, as validated using the ROC/AUC metric. The Fuzzy Logic model showcases the highest predictive efficacy, with a prediction level of 78.3%. The validation results of gold mining sites from the models indicate a percentage agreement of 75%. The study guides future exploration efforts, directing them toward areas with the highest promise of finding gold. This work is instrumental in optimizing resource allocation and maximizing the efficiency of exploration endeavors, paving the way for more targeted and successful gold prospecting in the region.

Chromite is a strategic mineral resource for many countries, and chromite deposit occurrences are widespread in the ultramafic rocks of the Yarlung Zangbo ophiolite belt, particularly in the harzburgite unit of the mantle section. Conducting field surveys in complex and poorly accessible terrain is challenging, expensive, and time-consuming. Remote sensing is an advanced method of achieving modern geological work and is a powerful technical means of geological research and mineral exploration. In order to delineate outcrops of chromite-bearing mantle peridotite, the present research study integrates seven image-enhancement techniques, including optimal band combination, decorrelation stretching, band ratio, independent component analysis, principal component analysis, minimum noise fraction, and false color composite, for the interpretation of Landsat8 OLI and WorldView-2 satellite data. This integrated approach allows the effective discrimination of chromite-containing peridotite outcrops in the Luobusa area, Tibet. The interpretation results derived from these integrated image-processing techniques were systematically verified in the field and formed the basis of the feature selection process of different lithologies supported by the support vector machine algorithm. Furthermore, the distribution range of the ferric contamination anomaly is detected through the de-interference abnormal principal component thresholding technique, which shows a high spatial matching relationship with mantle peridotite. This is the first study to utilize Landsat8 OLI and WorldView-2 remote sensing satellite data to explore the largest chromite deposit in China, which enriches the research methods for the chromite deposits in the Luobusa area. Accordingly, the results of this investigation indicate that the integration of information extracted from image-processing algorithms using remote sensing data could be a broadly applicable tool for prospecting chromite ore deposits associated with ophiolitic complexes in mountainous and inaccessible regions such as Tibet’s ophiolitic zones.

Reduction of aeromagnetic noise and extraction of mineralization-related residual anomalies are critical for aeromagnetic data processing in mineral exploration. This study introduced a multifractal singular value decomposition (MSVD) method to remove the noise and improved the bi-dimensional empirical mode decomposition (BEMD) algorithm to extract residual magnetic anomalies. It is shown that MSVD and improved BEMD could effectively reduce the noise and extract residual magnetic anomalies. Then, a wavenumber–domain iterative approach is applied in 3D imaging of magnetic anomalies and gradients with depth constraints, which is a rapid tool for qualitative and quantitative interpretation of magnetic data and is suitable for rapidly imaging large-scale data. The 3D inversion result is verified by four geological sections along the regional tectonic directions and some drilling holes on the deposits. It is revealed that this proposed approach is practical and effective in dealing with aeromagnetic data interpretation and inversion for mineral exploration.
