Exploring leadership styles for innovation: an exploratory factor analysis

Abstract: Leadership plays a vital role in building the process, structures, and climate for an organisation to become innovative and to motivate team expectations toward innovations. This study explores the leadership styles that engineers regard as significant for innovation in the public sector. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was conducted to identify the principal leadership styles influencing innovation in the Australian Public Service (APS), using survey data extracted from the 2014 APS employee census comprisi… Show more

“…The method is used by researchers to underlay a battery of measured variables, uncover the underlying structure of a relatively large set of variables and identify relationships between measured variables (Norris and Lecavalier, 2009;Fabrigar et al, 1999). The EFA method is often used in the field of logistics (Ryciuk, 2016;Leończuk, 2019) and management (Ejdys, 2018;Wipulanusat, Panuwatwanich and Stewart, 2017).…”

“…Leadership style is regarded as a significant factor that impacts innovation in the public sector. Wipulanusat et al (2017a) explore the leadership styles that engineers regard as significant for innovation in the public sector. Their findings highlight the role of transformational and consideration leadership as the most critical predictor when considering the degree to which subordinates strive for creativity and innovation.…”

“…In the factor analysis known two procedures based on a slightly different mind base of explanatory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) [2]. EFA is used to analyze inter-relationship between variables and to explore factor structure, then the fit size of the model is tested using CFA [14].…”
