Exploring Genetic Attributions Underlying Radiotherapy-Induced Fatigue in Prostate Cancer Patients

Abstract: The implications of herein presented RIF pathways are purely theoretical until specific end-point driven experiments are conducted in more congruent contexts. Nevertheless, the presented attributions are informative, directing future investigation to definitively elucidate RIF's pathoetiology. This study demonstrates an arguably comprehensive method of approaching known differential expression underlying a complex phenotype, to correlate feasible pathophysiology.

“…In such scenarios, VarElect is utilized to analyze gene lists retrieved from various methodologies, helping to focus on more affordable candidate gene lists based on gene-phenotype information. Scenarios benefitting from the gene-phenotype prioritization capacities of VarElect include gene expression (RNAseq/Microarrays), protein expression (mass spectrometry), and other multi-OMICS downstream analyses (Hulst et al 2017;Yang et al 2016;Biro et al 2017;Voisey et al 2017;Amorim et al 2017;Fonseca et al 2018); genome-wide association studies (Luzon-Toro et al 2015); Quantitative Trait Locus (QTL) gene targets downstream analysis (Martinez-Montes et al 2018); and others (Chen et al 2016;Alvarez-Castelao et al 2017;Butler et al 2016;Makler and Narayanan 2017;Hashemi et al 2017).…”

“…However, these methods have undesirable adverse effects, including fatigue, vomiting, diarrhea, pain, hair loss, and nausea. [11][12][13] In PDT, when the light used turns the compound from its basic state into an excited state, it interacts with the target tissue or cells by two different reactions; (a) type I (superoxide, peroxide, and reactive oxygen species [ROS] are formed); (b) type II (singlet oxygen is formed). [14] Thus, it irreversibly results in damage to the cell, inhibits the protein or DNA or RNA activities of the cell, and causes the death of cancer cells.…”
