Exploration of the Factor Structure and Internal Consistency of the Aggressive Driving Behavior Questionnaire (ADBQ)

Abstract: The present investigation is part of a series of studies to develop a questionnaire for assessing propensity to engage in aggressive driving behavior. The 20-item Aggressive Driving Behavior Questionnaire (ADBQ) was administered to a sample of 495 college students from two universities. The data were factor analyzed, yielding six factors accounting for 56% of the variance and representing distinct aspects of aggressive driving. The ADBQ was also found to have a high internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = .77… Show more

“…Additionally, an interaction among roadway environment and scenario traffic aggressiveness was present. Theses findings provided further support of previous studies that examined the role of ADBQ as a predictor of aggressive driving behaviors (Brill, Mouloua & Shirkey, 2007;Brill, & Mouloua, 2011;Mouloua, Brill, & Shirkey, 2009). Therefore, the results from the ADBQ scores might inform researchers as to the likelihood that an individual will engage in aggressive driving behaviors, in addition to the effect of roadway environment design on driving performance.…”

“…The scale comprised of twenty items which were selected from five existing driving behavior scales, including the Driver Behavior Questionnaire (DBQ; Parker, Lajunen, & Stradling, 1998), Driver Anger Expression Inventory (DAEI; Deffenbacher, Lynch, Oetting, & Swaim, 2002), the Driving Angry Thoughts Questionnaire (DATQ; Deffenbacher, Deffenbacher, Lynch, & Richards, 2003), and the Driver Anger Scale (DAS; Deffenbacher, Oetting, & Lynch, 1994). From the factor analysis, six factors were obtained: anger/aggression, absentmindedness, speeding/minor infractions, judgment of other drivers, overt expression and misc (Brill & Mouloua, 2011). The predictive validity of this questionnaire was tested in a simulated environment indicating aggressive behavioral measurements were significantly correlated with the composite score of the ADBQ (Brill, Mouloua, Shirkey, & Alberti, 2009).…”
