Exploration of synthesized quaternary ammonium ionic liquids as unharmful anti-corrosives for aluminium utilizing hydrochloric acid medium

Abstract: 1-(benzyloxy)-1-oxopropan-2-aminium 4-methylbenzenesulfonate (BOPAMS) and 4-(benzyloxy)-4-oxobutan-1aminium 4-methylbenzenesulfonate (BOBAMS) were prepared and confirmed through spectroscopic methods (FT-Infrared, Carbon 13-NMR and Proton-NMR). BOPAMS and BOBAMS were evaluated as unharmful inhibitors for aluminium corrosion. The anti-corrosive properties, inhibition mechanism, inhibitor-metal adsorption behaviour and corrosion inhibition efficiency were evaluated by employing approaches like gravimetric, poten… Show more

“…This contributes to a reduction of the interaction between Al and 4 M NaOH solution, suppressing the attack of OH − on Al. 42 The inhibition efficiency reached a maximum value of 87.90% at 2.0 g l −1 of inhibitor, which is consistent with the weight loss and potentiodynamic polarization measurements results.…”

“…In this technique, we get insights on how corrosion current is curtailed by the inhibitors employed in the acid media and a decline in corrosion current is an indicator of its efficiency. The uniform corrosion rates are reckoned using Tafel plots [32,33] through PDP analysis invoked as discernment in the process of coeval reactions i. e., MS dissolution (anodic reaction) to the reduction of hydrogen ion (cathodic reaction) on the MS surface. Tafel plots of PQS and MQS in 0.5 M HCl at 303 K are cited in Figure 4(a) and Figure 4(b), establishing variation in concentrations that delineates the curves of reactions (anodic and cathodic) conceded with extrapolation give rise to PDP parameters comprising of anodic slope ( β A ) , cathodic slope ( β c ) , corrosion potential ( E corr ), corrosion current density ( i corr ) and rate of corrosion ( CR ) depicted in Table 2.…”

“…For physical adsorption to occur, the threshold standard free energy of adsorption should be less negative than 20kJmol1, and for chemical adsorption, it should be between 40 and 100kJmol1. [ 40 ] When DIDP was adsorbed on the surface of the base alloy and Al‐CM, the standard free energy (Gads0) value ranged from 9.58 to 8.87kJmol1 for the base alloy and 9.38 to 8.65kJmol1 for Al‐CM, which is in good agreement with physical adsorption. [ 41 ] Therefore, the inhibitor DIDP undergo physical adsorption on both the base alloy and Al‐CM.…”
