Exploiting User Signals and Stochastic Models to Improve Information Retrieval Systems and Evaluation

Abstract: The leitmotiv throughout this thesis is represented by IR evaluation. We discuss different issues related to effectiveness measures and novel solutions that we propose to address these challenges.
