Explicit Model Realizing Parton–hadron Duality

Abstract: We present a model that realizes both resonance-Regge (Veneziano) and parton-hadron (Bloom-Gilman) duality. We first review the features of the Veneziano model and we discuss how partonhadron duality appears in the Bloom-Gilman model. Then we review limitations of the Veneziano model, namely that the zero-width resonances in the Veneziano model violate unitarity and Mandelstam analyticity. We discuss how such problems are alleviated in models that construct dual amplitudes with Mandelstam analyticity (so-calle… Show more

“…To answer the question of the nature of a dual description, two complementary approaches have been adopted. The first is the nonperturbative model's view on the scaling of the structure functions at low-energies [27][28][29]; the second approach consists in a perturbative analysis [9,10,30], that through LxR provides a scenario by which the effect of HTs can be suppressed in a fully quantitative fit at large x. It is this second approach that we will follow in this paper.…”

“…Subsequently, studies of Bloom-Gilman-type duality have been extended to various other observables, including unpolarized neutron structure functions [63], spin-dependent nucleon structure functions [64], γ * p helicity cross sections [65], neutrino scattering [66,67], and nuclear structure functions [68,69]. Models exist that account for both the Veneziano and Bloom-Gilman dualities [70], but a quantitative understanding is still missing. It has long been realized that, when integrating the structure functions over W (or x), duality can be related to QCD through the operator product expansion (OPE).…”

“…[87] for additional references to the literature). Phenomenological calculations exploring how exclusive contributions to the final states build up the inclusive structure functions have been made by modelling the resonant contributions [88], as well as combining resonance models with Regge physics [70,89]. Attempts to correlate the behavior of individual resonances with Q 2 with the x dependence of the dual leading twist structure function have been made [72], including for the super-local case of elastic scattering at x ∼ 1, with interesting phenomenological predictions [90][91][92].…”
