Explaining the intention to use technology among student teachers

Abstract: Purpose -This paper aims to examine pre-service teachers' self-reported intention to use technology by employing the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) as the research framework. Design/methodology/approach -In total, 157 student teachers completed a survey questionnaire measuring their responses to four constructs in the TPB. These were administered at the beginning of the course in which technology was taught and used. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used as the technique for data analysis. Findings -Th… Show more

“…According to Lee (2010), although the acceptance of e-learning is an important step for the success of e-learning, the real success necessitates the continuous usage of this technology. In this research, the factors effecting the intentions to use video podcast technology, one of the important applications of Web 2.0 technology, in mathematics classes by the students of vocational college are studied.…”

“…Theory of planned behavior has been proven to be effective in predicting network behaviors and technology use (e.g., Baker and White, 2010; Teo and Lee, 2010; Chen, 2013). In a recent study, Lee and Tsai (2010) first applied TPB to explain why people continued to play online games.…”

“…However, unlike the present model, the TAM, TPB and UAUT can also be used to predict user's technology acceptance, although recent studies have suggested that some variables in these models such as perceived ease of use, subjective norm, computer self-efficacy, and users' beliefs about technology are significant predictors of attitudes towards computer use and intention to use computers. Hence it is reasonable to expect these variables to have significant influences on e-learning as well Paraskeva, Bouta & Papagianni, 2008;Saade & Kira, 2007;Teo, 2009;Teo & Lee, 2010;Teo & van Schaik, 2009;Teo, Wong & Sing, 2008;Teo, Lee, Chai & Wong, 2009). Over time, as e-learning becomes more prevalent, inequalities in access to technologies or users' abilities may result hence affecting e-learning acceptance (Crawford & McKenzie, 2011).…”
