Artificial intelligence (AI) has been playing a vital role in all life domains. A striking example is AI effective revolution in health and educational services during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, this systematic literature review investigates how AI impacts higher education (HE) by focusing on its impact on education quality, the learning and teaching process, assessments, and future careers. This review uses a systematic qualitative research method. The data is collected in a systematic review of academic articles on AI impact on HE from 1900 to 2021 from the Web of Science, Scopus, and ERIC. The process went through a systematic inclusion and exclusion procedure based on date, language, reported outcomes, setting and type of publications. Articles selected were screened via Rayyan Software and coded using excel based on the following themes: education quality, learning and teaching, assessments, future careers, and ethics. The total number of articles included is 56. The results vindicate that AI plays an efficient role in providing better education quality services, practical learning/teaching, and assessments approach for a better future career. Likewise, AI impacts future employment, which entails that HE institutions should incorporate more AI to have better graduates that meet the future market requirements. However, studies on AI impact assessments, ethics and future careers are limited and require further investigation.

AI is transforming many fields, including higher education. The pandemic has shown how AI can improve learning and teaching in higher education. This review examines how AI affects education quality, learning assessment, and higher education jobs (HE). The study employs a systematic qualitative method to review the academic literature on AI and higher education between 1900 and 2021. The data was gathered from various sources, including ERIC, Scopus, and the Web of Science, using specific exclusion and inclusion criteria centred on publication date, language, reported outcomes, setting, and publication type. From there on, the articles were analysed by Rayyan Software and categorised in Excel according to a scale that included aspects such as the quality of learning and teaching, assessment, and potential ethical future careers. The research also produced two bibliometric figures using VOSviewer to investigate co-authorship and the frequency of keyword occurrences in academic journals published in AI and HE. The analysis was done to ensure the study's validity in the scientific community. The study found that AI can improve education quality, provide practical learning and teaching methods, and improve assessments to better prepare students for careers. The study also emphasises the potential of AI to shape future employment opportunities and the need for higher education institutions to adopt AI to meet market demands. The study calls for more research on AI's effects on assessment, integrity, and higher education careers.

<p>The world eagerly anticipates advancements in AI technologies, with substantial ongoing research on the potential AI applications in the domain of education. The study aims to analyse publications about the possibilities of artificial intelligence (AI) within higher education, emphasising their bibliometric properties. The data was collected from the Scopus database, uncovering 775 publications on the subject of study from 2000 to 2022, using various keywords. Upon analysis, it was found that the frequency of publications in the study area has risen from 3 in 2000 to 314 in 2022. China and the United States emerged as the most influential countries regarding publications in this area. The findings revealed that “Education and Information Technologies” and the “International Journal of Emerging Technologies in Learning” were the most frequently published journals. “S. Slade” and “P. Prinsloo” received the most citations, making them highly effective researchers. The co-authorship network primarily comprised the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and China. The emerging themes included machine learning, convolutional neural networks, curriculum, and higher education systems are co-occurred with AI. The continuous expansion of potential AI technologies in higher education calls for increased global collaboration based on shared democratic principles, reaping mutual advantages.</p>
