In the experiments reported in this paper we have tried to find the correlation between the metabolic activity and the morphological picture, on the one hand, and the functional state of the myocardium, on the oth er, after 24 h of storage, using different techniques, as well as after resus citation by means of heterotopic transplantation of the heart stored for 24 h.
MethodsIn our experiments we have used our own modification of the original model of heterotopic cervicle homotransplantation of the heart according to Mann [7], Meisner [8] and Nasseri [9],The first group of hearts was preserved in Krebs-Ringer bicarbonate medium. The second and third groups were preserved in a cardioplégie solution containing procaine and mannitol and a certain concentration of cations, as suggested by Bretschneider 11], with and without the addition of succinate and 3-hydroxybutyrate (each 3 mM) in the coronary arteries before the beginning of preservation at a temperature of 2° C and 7 ata of air for 24 h. The fourth group consisted of hearts preserved for 24 h in a 15 °/o solution of dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) at a temperature of -20° C.
