The learning strategy contributes significantly to achieving learning achievements, but lectures often use many methods of learning. This fact does not match the demands of 21st-century learning that requires creative, critical, and communicative learning. This research aims to analyze the effect of the elaboration learning strategy on students' learning outcomes and critical-thinking skills. A two-factor mixed design (learning strategy and learning achievement) was used by involving 360 students randomly selected from 10 classes of senior high schools in the area of Jember, East Java, Indonesia. Five classes as the experimental classes used the elaboration learning strategy while five others as the control classes used the web teaching approach. After three weeks of treatment, all students are tested with their critical thinking skills and the cognitive abilities of their learning outcomes. Data is processed using multivariate analysis. The results show students' learning achievements (results of learning and critical thinking) as a result of elaborated learning strategies different from the Web teaching-learning strategy. Critical thinking and student learning outcomes use elaboration strategies better than web teaching-learning strategies. The researcher has long developed the elaboration learning strategy, but very few are using it. These results prove the teacher can use this strategy as an alternative in improving students' critical thinking skills.

In education, “Industrial Revolution 4.0” refers to utilizing technology to present students with complex situations that will develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The use of technology in the science curriculum should be designed according to established learning models. This study aimed to investigate the effect of implementing a discovery learning model, supported by the Solar System Scope computer application, on the ability of students to master essential concepts. This research used a One-Group Pre-test-Post-test design. Participants were 31 7th-grade students at one school in Bandung, Indonesia. The results showed a medium enhancement of concept mastery in students from pre-test to post-test (N-Gain=0.48). No gender difference in outcomes after the implementation of discovery learning with the Solar System Scope application was found. Based on these results, discovery learning supported by the Solar System Scope application could be an alternative teaching approach to enhance students' skills in mastering concepts.

The effectiveness of animal physiology practical book based on guided inquiry model is the essential factor to acievement student understending a about animal physiology concepts. The purpose of this study was to observe the effectiveness of animal physiology practical book based on guided inquiry model in Padang State University. The variables measured were affective, cognitive, psychomotor, and students’ activities. The data of this pre-experimental research were analyzed using averaged, percentage and standardized with Institutional assessment criteria. The results showed that the mean values were: 90.56 for affective competency (Criteria A), 82 for knowledge (Criteria A), and 89.66 for skills (Criteria A). Meanwhile, the percentage of student activities was 90.74% with very active category. It can be concluded that the effectiveness of practical book based on guided inquiry model was very effective to optimized student competences.
