Experimental verification and finite element modeling of radial truck tire under static loading

Abstract: Based on taking comprehensively into account the actual structure of the radial truck tire, including the contact non-linearity boundaries, such as tire-rim and tire-road interactions, an axisymmetric model and a three-dimensional nonlinear finite element tire model having four circumferential ribs are constructed in this investigation. With the aid of ABAQUS finite element analysis code, the static vertical loading procedure of the tire is simulated. The relationship between vertical load and vertical deflect… Show more

“…There are several constitutive models can be applied to represent the hyperelastic properties of rubber materials. [37][38][39][40] The Mooney-Rivlin model is selected for the prediction of rubber behaviours in our study, because it can adequately describe the mechanical behavior of rubber material when the deformation within 150%, thus, the Mooney-Rivlin model can satisfy the requirement of the performance of rubber material in practical application. The strain energy density function of Mooney-Rivlin model is expressed as Eq.…”

“…Tyres are among the most important components of a vehicle system and play an essential role in supporting the load and cushioning the vehicle against road irregularities when longitudinal driving or braking forces are transmitted from the road to the wheels. 1 Moreover, the tyres generate lateral, cornering or camber forces to support the necessary directional control of the vehicle. Thus, the tyre characteristics are of crucial importance to the dynamic behaviour of the vehicle.…”

“…Various simulation studies [1,2] and experiment results [3,4] have shown that tire-pavement contact stress has a great influence on vehicle handling and stability. The contact stress between tire and road surface is affected by parameters, such as tire load, velocity, pavement characteristics, and the slip rate.…”
