The aims and objectives of the study were to evaluate the antiParkinson’s (PD) potential of B cernua (BCE). B cernua (Poir.) Müll. Arg. (B cernua) is a member of the Phyllanthaceae family. HPLC revealed the presence of various phytochemicals. Study was conducted for 40 days. After PD induction by paraquat behavioural studies were carried out. Biochemical parameters such as DPPH, NO-scavenging, Ferrous reducing power, MDA, GSH, CAT, SOD, acetylcholinesterase (AChE), neurotransmitter estimation and TNF-α and IL-6 levels were determined. DPPH, NO-scavenging and Ferrous reducing power assays showed 78.02%, 48.05% and 71.45% inhibitions, respectively. There was significant improvement in motor functions and coordination in a dose-dependent manner (50 < 250 < 500 mg/kg) in PD rat model. Biochemical markers; SOD, CAT, GPx and GSH showed significant restoration ( P < .001) while MDA showed significant decrease ( P < .05). The AChE level was significantly reduced ( P < .05) at 500 mg/kg while neurotransmitters were significantly improved ( P < .001) in a dose-dependent fashion. The ELISA results showed significant ( P < .001) down-regulation of IL-6 and TNF-α level. In conclusion, it is suggested that BCE has the potential to reduce the symptoms of PD.

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder. In this study, PD was induced via (ip) injection of haloperidol (1 mg/kg/day). Animals were divided into seven groups (n = 70). Group I received the vehicle carboxymethylcellulose (CMC; 0.5%), group II was treated with designated 1 mg/kg haloperidol, and group III received the standard drug Sinemet (100 mg/kg), while groups IV–VII received a tocopherol derivative (Toco-D) at dose levels of 5, 10, 20, and 40 mg/kg, respectively, via the oral route. All groups received haloperidol for 23 consecutive days after their treatments except the control group. The improvement in locomotor activity and motor coordination was evaluated by using behavioral tests. Oxidative stress markers, neurotransmitters, and monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) as well as NF-κB levels in the whole brain were measured. mRNA expression analysis of α-synuclein was carried out using the PCR technique. Toco-D at 20 mg/kg showed the maximum improvement in locomotor activity. The levels of antioxidant enzymes and neurotransmitters were also increased by the treatment with Toco-D. Inflammatory cytokine levels and mRNA expression of α-synuclein were decreased by Toco-D in treated animals. This study concluded that Toco-D might be effective in the improvement of locomotor activity and motor coordination in haloperidol-induced PD.

Since many researchers previously reported that M. tinctoria and V. negundo possess antiulcer activity thus the main objective of our study is to compare the antiulcer activity of both plants. Pharmacogenetic, phytochemical, and pharmacological assessments will be used to identify the antiulcer effect of the M. tinctoria and V. negundo. By using a vacuum rotary evaporator, M. tinctoria and V. negundo alcoholic extracts were prepared. The OECD criteria for acute toxicity and sub-acute oral toxicity were done for 14, 28 days. For antiulcer activity determination, in-vitro and in-vivo methods were used. In the Pylorus ligation-induced gastric ulcer model, 400mg/kg M. tinctoria was significantly different from the standard and revealed a 4.820±00** ulcer index, whereas 400mg/kg V.negundo revealed a 4.980±04*** ulcer index. At the dose of 400 mg/kg of M. tinctoria ulcer index observed 0.46 ± 0.02 and V.negundo was 0.49 ± 0.21 substantially reduced the effect of ulcers and the ulcer index observed in swimming stress-induced ulcers. M. tinctoria and V.negundo observed 4.1±0.37 and 4.5±0.19 ulcer index in NSAIDsinduced stomach ulcers in rats administered by oral route at the dose of 400 mg/kg. With an IC50 of 35 µg/ml, M. tinctoria significantly reduced ATP hydrolysis by goat stomach ATPase. For the positive control group, Omeprazole (10-50µg/ml) was used to lower Hydrogen Potassium ATPase activity, with an IC50 of 29 µg/ml. In comparison to V.negundo, pharmacological studies show that M. tinctoria extract (MTE) successfully protects the stomach mucosa from ulcers generated by different agents.
