Experimental Validation of Combined Trip Estimator for Small Power Electric Tractor

Abstract: The combined use of the electric tractor in high-speed travel and high-torque towing must involve a trip range estimation and an optimal driving behavior of the vehicle. The paper proposes an estimation method based on the measured usable energy reserve and on prediction of the power consumption for the two selected operating modes: rolling and towing. As driver’s interface will be used an interactive graphical display which can be used for the initial settings and further adjustments of some of the working pa… Show more

“…As an experimental setup, we developed a control unit as presented in Figure 12b, similar to the one presented in [17], and that designed for the control of a small power full electric tractor, previously presented in [16]. The event memory is set up so that it will record any event from the I/O, from the communication interface COM, or from internal memory INT.…”

“…Since most of the aquatic weed harvesters present on the market have a power rating between 16 kW and 80 kW [18][19][20][21], based on a tradeoff between power and size, a 30 kW peak power rating with an imposed autonomy of 1.5 h are guidelines for the proposed electric harvester. Considering the average energy consumption of some of these solutions as well as other machines developed by the authors, such as electric tractors [22] having similar power ratings and working conditions, we estimate an average power consumption of 18 kW. To achieve the required autonomy, the battery has to be sized according to the following formula:…”
