“…A anemia é a característica mais comum em infecções por tripanossomas e já foi descrita em ovelhas, cabras, cães, coatis (Nasua nasua), camelos e búfalos (ONAH et al, 1996;SHARMA et al, 2000;AQUINO et al, 2002, HERRERA et al, 2002ATARHOUCH et al, 2003;HILALI et al, 2006). As médias do VCM e da CHCM não variaram entre os grupos de animais infectados e não infectados, caracterizando uma anemia normocítica normocrômica.…”

“…In this area, trypanosomiasis due to Trypanosoma evansi is enzootic since it affects many species of domestic and wild animals (Franke et al, 1994;Herrera et al, 2002). The course of the disease lasts between one week to six months (Woo, 1977) and usually results in emaciation and death.…”

“…Anemia is a commonly found in horses, donkeys, dogs and coatis (Nasua nasua) experimentally infected with T. evansi (Marques et al, 2000;Soodan et al, 1996;Aquino et al, 2002;Herrera et al, 2002). Some alterations in blood biochemistry, including decrease in blood albumin and increase in globulin levels, hypoglycemia and increase in icterus index, have been reported in donkeys and horses (Soodan et al, 1996;Marques et al, 2000).…”

“…The disease affects different body organs of infected animals which lead to alterations in serum biochemical parameters like liver enzymes, total proteins, glucose, cholesterol, albumin, urea, creatinine and minerals. Total proteins and gamma globulins increase while serum albumin decreases in several Trypanosomes infections (Herrera et al, 2002). Nevertheless, Katunguka-Rwakishaya et al (1999) and Osaeret al (2000) reported significant decline in total protein due to decreased albumin in sheep and ewes experimentally infected with T. congolense.…”
