Experimental transition probabilities andJ-file sum rule test for the transition array 3p–3d in neutral neon

Abstract: Seventy four intensities of neutral neon lines (Ne I), belonging to transitions 3p-3d, 3p -3d, 3p-3d , and 3p -3d (all in short denoted as 3p-3d), have been measured. The neon plasma produced in a wall-stabilized arc has been applied as the excitation source for neon atoms. From measured Ne I line intensities the respective relative transition probabilities (A ki ) have been determined. The absolute scale for the A ki data has been established by normalizing them to the radiative lifetime value for the level 2… Show more

“…This discrepancy most likely comes from uncertainty in the dipole coupling strengths between the levels in the TDSE calculation, as well as variations in the experimental NIR spectrum. The coupling strengths between the 3d and 3p states have been measured experimentally [31][32][33][34][35][36] and calculated [37][38][39], but there are significant discrepancies between the various sources. Additionally, the experimental NIR spectrum varies from day to day, so rather than performing calculations with experimentally measured NIR spectra, it is more revealing to theoretically consider the dependence of the observed beating on the central frequency of the pulse.…”

“…The numerical values of the relative line strengths are listed in table 3 that are compared with the NIST Database [18] and the theoretical line strength in both length and velocity formulation [10] showing good agreement. The J-file sum rule provides theoretical line strengths that can be used to test the experimentally obtained line strengths [24]. To the best of our knowledge, for the first time we are comparing the measured and calculated line strengths for the complete set of spectral lines belonging to the 4p 5 5p→4p 5 5 s transition array.…”

“…The absolute values of the transition probabilities can be obtained by measuring the line intensities arising from the emission of the laser produced plasma and combining them with the life times of the upper levels. This technique has been used to obtain the transition probabilities of neutral and ionization stages of different atoms [6][7][8][9][10][11]. The National Bureau of Standards (NBS) [12] has com piled an extensive data base on the atomic parameters such as line strengths, transition probabilities and oscillator strengths of nearly all the atoms in the Periodic Table . The transition prob abilities, atomic oscillator strengths and line strengths of trans itions are related to the experimentally measured intensities of the spectral lines of an atom.…”
