Experimental Study to Evaluate the Hydraulic Performance of Bastora Dam Stepped Spillway

Abstract: This study aims to evaluate the performance of proposed design for Bastora dam stepped spillway project. Experiments are conducted on a physical model, which is constructed at the laboratory of hydraulic engineering/ college of engineering/ Salahaddin University, Erbil-Iraq using an appropriate scale to avoid potential effects governing the model. The evaluation includes determining the flow regime passing the structure, length to and flow depth at the inception point, the efficiency of the structure to dissip… Show more

“…Numerous attempts have been done to upgrade the designing of stepped cascades by choosing various step formations and arrangements, mainly; very rough and end sill (Andre, 2004), Inclined to upward steps (Chinnarasri and Wongwises, 2004) configuration of vanes by (Gonzalez, 2005) and non-uniformity step sizes (Felder, 2013). However, several experimental works have been done to realize the flow properties over stepped cascades, namely; (Chanson et al, 2002, Boes and Hager, 2003, Gonzalez and Chanson, 2005, Kavianpour and Masoumi, 2008, HUSAIN and AHMED, 2017. While, numerous of numerical models have been improved and adjusted to determine the flow properties of flow conditions over stepped cascades.…”
