Experimental study on the partial discharge and AC breakdown properties of C 4 F 7 N/CO 2 mixture

Abstract: As an environmental friendly insulating medium, C 4 F 7 N has received extensive attention in the past two years. In this study, the partial discharge (PD) and breakdown characteristics of C 4 F 7 N/CO 2 gas mixture were investigated using the gas insulation performance test platform. The influence of gas pressure and mixing ratio on the PD initial voltage (PDIV) and breakdown voltage of C 4 F 7 N/CO 2 gas mixture in different electric fields was tested. It was found that the PDIV and breakdown voltage of gas … Show more

“…14 In addition, the dielectric strength of the C 4 F 7 N gas mixture with 18–20% C 4 F 7 N can be achieved similar to that of pure SF 6 . 15 The insulation properties, 1619 decomposition characteristics, 2025 and material compatibility 2628 of the C 4 F 7 N gas mixture have been deeply investigated over the past 3 years, confirming that the C 4 F 7 N–CO 2 or C 4 F 7 N–N 2 gas mixture has the potential to be used in all kinds of GIE.…”

“…Sulphur hexafluoride (SF 6 ), due to its superior chemically inert and dielectric strength, is widely applied as an insulator medium for arc-quenching in high-voltage insulation devices [1][2][3][4] such as gasinsulated switchgear of the power system [5,6]. These devices, however, in the long-running will be afflicted with the partial discharge (PD) generated around the sharp edges or small contaminant particles where the electric field is intensified [7][8][9].…”
