Experimental Study on the Mechanical Properties and Failure Characteristics of Layered Aeolian Sand Paste-Like Backfill—A Case Study from Shanghe Coal Mine

Abstract: Filling mining is an important direction in green coal mining. In the filling site, a layered filling body can be formed due to technological problems. In this paper, we take Shanghe Coal Mine (Shaanxi Province, China) as the background. In order to explore the mechanical properties and failure modes of layered backfill, specimens with different layered proportions (1:1, 1:3, 3:1) were made and studied concerning the aspects of wave velocity, porosity, strength and failure modes. The experimental result demons… Show more

“…There are obvious sliding traces on the failure surface, and the failure surface is a small particle cementitious layer, and the large particles are not obviously damaged. This indicates that the cylindrical gangue gypsum body material specimen has a typical shear failure of the cementitious layer during uniaxial compression [ 29 , 30 ].…”

“…A total of 12 filling specimens were made. After curing for 24 h, the mould was demoulded and put into the HWS constant temperature, and humidity curing box for 28 d, where the temperature was (20 ± 1) °C and the relative humidity was (95 ± 2)% [ 42 ].…”

“…These mine tailings usually contain hazardous chemical compounds and would otherwise be impounded on the land posing a grave threat to the environment as well as human lives. In addition, the CPB technology is economically advantageous because it improves the productivity of ore retrieval during mining [1][2][3][4][5][6]. Moreover, binder inclusion ensures that the backfill becomes self-supporting after a short period, making the excavation of adjacent ore body possible.…”
