Nanomaterials synthesized by the conventional polyol process varying with the effect of chain length on diols produce the desired properties of the material in a controlled way. A challenging maricite NaMnPO 4 is still hindering to make it electrochemically active, which entails strenuous efforts in the domain of sodium-ion batteries. This work aims at the preparation of maricite NaMnPO 4 triumphing with the influence of diols chain length on the polyol process to make it electrochemically active. Herein, increasing the diol chain length using ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, and poly(ethylene glycol) (400 and 6000) fosters the formation of pure material in a single step. Formation of the maricite system is evinced by Rietveld refinement analysis, in which the Mn atom accommodates in the 4a site and Na atom accommodates in the 4c site with the space group of Pmnb. The one-dimensional "rod-like" structure of the material favors the intercalation and deintercalation of sodium ions. Molecular structural dynamics of the maricite NaMnPO 4 revealed the intramolecular charge transfer validating the electrostatic activity of the system. Moreover, the material is established in the sodiumion battery as a cathode material, and the results revealed an initial discharge capacity of 102 mAh/g and observed the performance for 182 cycles at 0.1C.

A Novel Highly Stable Biomass Gel Foam Based on Double Cross-Linked Structure for Inhibiting Coal Spontaneous Combustion

To enhance the stability of biomass gel foam used for inhibiting coal spontaneous combustion (CSC), a novel highly stable biomass gel foam (SA-Ca2+@TA-GF) based on a double cross-linked structure was prepared by introducing tannic acid (TA) into a gel form (sodium alginate/calcium L-lactate/composite foaming agent). FT-IR confirmed the formation of the double cross-linked structure. The effects of TA concentration on the performance of SA-Ca2+@TA-GF were analyzed, considering gelation time, half-life, film microstructure, and strength. With the addition of 1.6 wt% TA, SA-Ca2+@TA-GF forms a dense foam structure with a gelation time of 10 min. The half-life of the gel foam improves from 0.4 to 30 days and the strength increases by 72.9% compared to that of foam without TA. The inhibition experiments show that SA-Ca2+@TA-GF can asphyxiate coal, thus effectively inhibiting coal oxidation. Additionally, it can increase the temperature of coal at the rapid oxidation stage by 60 °C, and the CO inhibition rate is up to 79.6% at 200 °C. The fire-fighting experiment shows that SA-Ca2+@TA-GF can effectively cool coal and quickly extinguish fires. This study provides a simple method to prepare highly stable biomass gel foams, which is useful for improving the efficiency of gel foams in inhibiting CSC.

Preparation and Characterization of a Bentonite-Based Hybrid Gel for Coal Spontaneous Combustion Prevention

This paper presents an investigation of the feasibility of intercalating lignocellulose/xanthan gum (XG) and organic polymers into bentonite to obtain an efficient fire extinguishing gel material. The bentonite-based hybrid gel was prepared by adding polyacrylates, Al(OH) 3 , lignocellulose, and XG into a bentonite suspension, and the resulting gel was characterized. The results showed that no cracking and powdering were found on the surface of the hybrid gel due to the formation of the cross-linked network in the bentonite, and a wide mesopore size distribution and good thermal stability were observed. The hybrid gel also exhibits a wide range of water adsorption ratios, excellent water retention, adjustable gelation times, shear thinning characteristics, and improved compressive strength (the yield stress reaches up to 13 MPa). Based on these characterizations, the mechanism of hybrid gel formation is proposed. The inhibition performance of the hybrid gel on coal spontaneous combustion indicates that the addition of the gel slows down the oxygen chemisorption and thus increases the ignition temperature. Due to the presence of the hybrid gel in the coal, the crossing point temperatures were increased and the lowest CO concentration was produced.
