Experimental Study on Mechanical Properties of Novel FRP Bars with Hoop Winding Layer

Abstract: Due to the fact that steel reinforcement is vulnerable to corrosion, FRP bars with light weight, high strength, and excellent durability have become a good substitute for ordinary steel bars. FRP bars have high tensile strength, but their compressive strength is relatively low and often neglected, so the application of FRP bars in compression members has been restricted. This paper proposes a new pultrusion-winding-pultrusion method to improve the compressive ability of FRP bars. A hoop FRP layer is winded on … Show more

“…For example, Ghaedsharaf et al [104] investigated the resulting internal geometry and fibre orientation distribution as a result of the material forming that takes place during braidtrusion. Related to braidtrusion, pultrusion-winding is another approach in which a hoop layer is wound around a pultruded core to achieve the helical contact surface that is ideal for composite rebar applications [105,106].…”

“…In recent years, advancements in FRP composite material technology have led to the development of various surface treatment techniques for bonding FRP bars with concrete, including fine sand coated, rough sand coated, helically wrapped, braided, grooved, and smooth surfaces [24][25][26][27][28][29]. Some studies have also combined two or more of these surface treatments.…”
