Experimental Study on Gas Nitriding Technology With Single-Stagedand Two-Stagedprocesses for Skd61 Hot-Work Die Steel

Abstract

This paperpresents anexperimental study on gas nitriding technology with single-stagedand two-stagedprocesses for SKD61 hot-work die steel. A comparison of the experimental data of the two processes showsthat, the single-stagedgas nitriding processgot an 1.22 times thickernitrided layerbut required too long nitriding time, causeda 1.55 times thicker iron nitridelayer and considerrably lower microhardness. At the same time, the cost of single-stagedgasnitriding process is higher. Obtainedresults contribute to improvementin designing, fabricationand recovering thehot-work dies.
