EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON EVALUATION OF VOLUME AND IMPRESSION OF INTERIOR-SPACE : Fundamental study for spatial planning based on volume (Part 2)

The objective of this study is to understand the evaluation and image of spaces using artificial turf. This study comprised of visual impression experiments in the indoor and urban spaces and interviews. Factor analysis and multiple regression analysis were conducted using the results of visual impression experiments. As a result, it was found that the factors that affect the pleasantness of a space with artificial turf are preference and idyllic in an indoor space, and vitality and preference in an urban space. From the interview, we understood the impressions that people who use spaces with artificial turf on a daily.

VR technology development has lifted restrictions in environmental psychology experiment. To verify the reliability of using VR in experiments in our research: quantification of spaciousness, we examined if there's differences between VR space and real space as a reference stimulus in ME method experiments. Major findings are as follows: 1) General luminance balance could be roughly realized in VR, even though the luminance of light emitting parts exceeded the system's output limit. 2) There were no significant differences in the spaciousness evaluation results, except for few cases where the light source parts affected luminance distribution.
