Experimental Study on Droplet Characteristics of Rotating Sprinklers with Circular Nozzles and Diffuser

Abstract: The characteristics of spray droplets are important for calculating the hydraulic performance of sprinklers. In order to evaluate the effects of working pressure and nozzle diameter on the near ground droplet characteristics of the Nelson R33 sprinkler, an experiment was conducted to test the droplet size and velocity by using a two-dimensional video disdrometer (2DVD). Based on the water application rate, droplet diameter and velocity, the kinetic energy was calculated. The results show that there is an expon… Show more

“…The authors found that non‐circular outlet shapes resulted in higher combined uniformity. Wang et al (2022) studied the relationship between the nozzle diameter and droplet characteristics of R33 sprinklers; a positive correlation between nozzle diameter and average droplet diameter was found. Liu et al (2016) carried out a comparative study on the impact of using diffusers with or without tooth I on the water droplet size distribution in the R33 sprinkler; using tooth I increased the water droplet size.…”
