Deposition and precipitation of paraffin wax in pipelines are major problems in the production, transfer, storage, and processing of crude oil. To prevent complete clogging, it is necessary to minimize and remove deposited wax in pipelines and tubing. Significant research has been done addressing the mechanisms of wax formation and its composition. In this review, the status of research and perspectives on the occurrence and characterization of the paraffin wax that forms in crude oil developing wells and pipelines has been critically reviewed. Several approaches for detecting paraffin wax and managing wax formation damage during oil recovery were discussed. This review also highlighted the effects of temperature and crude oil type on wax formation.

The permeability of reservoirs is a key factor affecting the exploitation and utilization of geothermal resources. This test used a core flow meter and other advanced experimental devices to investigate the evolution of the permeability characteristics of loose sandstone samples (with a diameter of 25 mm and a length of 50 mm) in the Zijiao Town area under various temperatures, confining pressures, injection rates, and cyclic loading and unloading conditions. The results show that (1) as the temperature increases, the overall trend of rock permeability decreases, which is mainly related to the thermal expansion of rock particles. In addition, the higher the temperature, the greater the gravel outflow. (2) The critical pressure for pore closure in the unconsolidated sandstone in the region is approximately 15 MPa. (3) The permeability change of loose sandstone under low injection rate conditions is relatively small and can be neglected. However, there is reason to believe that under high-flow injection conditions, the permeability of this type of rock mass will undergo significant changes. (4) Under the condition of loading and unloading, the permeability ratio curve of the unloading stage at three temperatures is almost a straight line. The higher the temperature, the smaller the slope, and the permeability at 20 °C with the highest recovery degree is only about 50% of the initial one.

The proposed research work is focused on forecasting the future requirements of water supply based on the current requirement of water and also identifying the possibility of occurrences of cracks and leaks using the ARIMA (autoregressive integrated moving average) model. The experiments were conducted using real-time experimental hardware. The pressure data obtained and their p -value is less than 0.05, which represents the stability of the data in the ARIMA model. The forecasted pressure data range between 0.451379 N/m2 and 2.022273 N/m2. The frequency of the forecasted pressure ranges between 1.706869 N/m2 and 3.065836 N/m2 (maximum peak) and −0.81046 N/m2 and 1.042164 N/m2 (minimum peak). Forecasted data of pressure at damaged condition lie between 2.880788 N/m2 and 3.29797 N/m2 and frequency ranges between 4.866227 N/m2 and 5.664348 N/m2. Similarly, future forecasted data of water requirement for the next 1 year range between 614.6292 (liters/week) and 620.0099 (liters/week), the frequency of the forecast value with maximum ranging from 617.0086 (liters/week) to 628.5465 (liters/week), and the minimum peaks ranging from 611.0967 (liters/week) to 612.2914 (liters/week). The above data are for a single water distribution pipeline.
