Experimental Study of Glass Strength against Shock Wave Loading-Stress Generation of Float Glass Plates-

Abstract

Stress generation by shock wave on a 300 mm~300 mm oat glass specimen was investigated. Stresses in oat glass plate increased to a maximum value impulsively, and decayed accompanied by a periodical oscilla tory pattern. The stress values s so far generated can be written in the following form of time t and thick ness d using 4 parameters, s it, dÞ j C d sin vtEexp o|l it|p/2vj p {C s. In these 4 parameters, C d and C s are shown as a factor of Mach number by normalizing with glass thickness, and l and v are dependent on glass thickness.
