Experimental study in wind tunnel of interference effects on the reduced model of the CAARC building

Abstract: The increasing verticalization of urban environments led to the consideration of loads influenced by horizontal forces arising from the action of the wind. Different neighborhood densities alter the flow behavior and reflect on interference effects. An extensive study developed in the wind tunnel through aerodynamic characterization in the reduced model of the CAARC building, simulated with the insertion of distinct windward neighborhood densities in three configurations, I (one interfering model), II (two mod… Show more

“…Furthermore, differing geometric dimensions and their relative positioning can engender intricate aerodynamic circumstances, the intricacy of which is contingent upon the concentration of buildings in proximity (Kim et al, 2017;Quan Yong et al, 2010). Such interplay among structures contributes to the configuration of pressure distribution and concomitant aerodynamic phenomena within a particular building (Nagar et al, 2022;Fontes-Silva. et al, 2022).…”

“…One of the wind effects that is considered in structural designs is the interference effects due to surrounding buildings. Some researchers in the past have also investigated and indicated the importance of the interference effect, analyzing parameters such as the number of interfering buildings and its locations, simulated wind characteristics and its angle of incidence, terrain roughness, relative dimensions of buildings, modal frequency, mode shapes, Scruton number and Strouhal number (Gu et al (2005), Vieira et al (2018), Lo et al (2020), Fontes-Silva et al (2022)).…”
