Experimental Study and Application of Response Mask Invariant Characteristic for Generalized Visible Light Communication Channel

Abstract: In this paper, we describe a generalized visible light communication (VLC) channel, which consists of the frequency responses of the light emitting diode (LED), the wireless optical channel, and the photo detector (PD). Based on the theoretical analysis of the generalized VLC channel, we found the response mask invariant characteristic (RMIC) under the condition of strong line of sight components, which means the shape of frequency response of generalized VLC channel is time-independent and invariant at differ… Show more

“…Numerous studies [6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13] and standardization work [14] have been carried out on VL communication services. In particular, secure VL communication services based on encryption algorithms to enhance security performance have been studied, some examples of which are summarized here.…”

“…Most of the works in VLC development are based on photodiode receivers such as [3]- [5] due to its high communication speed. On the other hand, cameras or image sensors, bundled with mobile devices, can easily be transformed into communication receivers.…”

“…where z l [n] is the noise sample at the output of the l-th matched filter ω l (2T s −t); z l [n] (∀n ∈ N ) are assumed to be an independent and identically distributed (i.i.d) AWGN RVs with zero mean and variance σ 2 l , whereσ 2 l = E[s 2 l [n]]σ 2[37]. Equation(8), which is based on(5), indicates that z 2 [n] is discarded if a positive signal is detected; otherwise z[n] is equal to the sum of the two noise components z 1 [n] and z 2 [n] divided by √ 2. Thus, it is intuitively clear from (8) that in our proposed scheme the noise power of z[n] will be less than that of z(t); i.e., σ 2 .…”
