EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES ON MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF E-GLASS SHORT FIBRES & FLY ASH REINFORCED AL 7075 HYBRID METAL MATRIX COMPOSITES

Abstract: Conventional monolithic materials have limitations in achieving good combination of strength, stiffness, toughness and density. To overcome these shortcomings and to meet the ever increasing demand of modern day technology, composites are most promising materials of recent interest. Metal matrix composites (MMCs) possess significantly improved properties including high specific strength, specific modulus, damping capacity and good wear resistance compared to unreinforced alloys. Among the MMC’s aluminum compos… Show more

“…The reinforcement can be a ceramic oxide, nitride carbide particulates. These reinforcements are improving the properties of Al7000 series alloys [2], [3], [4]. In an investigation, Al7075 alloy was reinforced with LM 13 aluminum/ B4C by means of liquid metallurgy techniques to find the wear behavior [5].…”

“…The different materials work together to give the composite unique properties. Matrix is continuous phase and reinforcement is non continuous phase which normally harder and stronger [1], [15]. Aluminium matrix composites, a growing number of applications require the matrix properties of super alloys, magnesium or iron.…”

“…Aluminium matrix composites, a growing number of applications require the matrix properties of super alloys, magnesium or iron. Like all composites, aluminiummatrix composites are not a single materials whose stiffness, density, thermal and electrical properties can be tailored to the suitable requirement [1]- [14]. The properties of the composite depend on the properties of reinforcements, size, and its weight fractions [8].…”
