Experimental set-up for the measurement of prompt gamma rays resulting from interactions of 14.5 MeV neutrons

Abstract: An experimental apparatus was built and tested for the investigation of prompt gamma ray spectra produced by 14.5 MeV neutrons. To reduce the background the associated particle method was used. The time resolution of the 27 cm 3 trapezoidal coaxial Ge(Li) detector was 45 nsec, using an avalanche transistor as leading-edge-type time pick-off. The prompt gamma spectra of Fe and U were investigated in the 0,675--2.445 MeV range.
