“…(b) The sub-image patterns were used to classify the pixels following a procedure that we have called vector quantization Bayesian filtering (VQ-BF). 5,6 For this step an expert in MRI and/or pathology carried out a manual identification of the segmented images with the help of all the available diagnostic imaging and pathologic findings. From the manually labeled region, probability was determined a posteriori by using the Bayesian probability calculation (Pérez de Alejo et al, in preparation).…”

“…Here we describe the results of an extension to that study with another well-established, clinically controlled, experimental model of acute local muscle inflammation caused by the intramuscular injection of Aspergillus fumigatus into mice, using the MRI protocols and experimental features developed in our previous paper. Furthermore, we have made thorough use of a segmentation methodology based on a neural network treatment, 5,6 which facilitates consensus among those controlling the image analysis and decreases the bias. We have also obtained pertinent MRS data and performed a detailed histopathological study of the infected tissues in addition to image analysis and pixel counting.…”

“…It first creates a representative group of sequences, and for a given sequence, vector quantization would then represent the given output sequence with one of the representatives of the representative group. The vector quantization technology has been originated in 1970s, and today, as an efficient data compression technology, it is widely used in some areas such as audio coding, image coding, video coding, and pattern recognition etc., [3][4][5][6].…”

“…Zegar and Gersho [3] proposed the Binary Switching Algorithm, Farvardin [4] the simulated annealing algorithm, Knagenhjelm and Agrell [5] the Linearity Increasing Swap Algorithm and Day [6] the Eigenspace Index Assignment Algorithm (EIA). Some other papers [7][8][9][10]17] also discussed index assignment algorithms at a fixed-bit error rate.…”
