Experimental research of how the boundary layer lower the pipe drag reduction in transport of dense paste

Abstract: A thin boundary layer formed on inner‐pipe wall and brought out wall slip phenomenon when dense pastes were transported in pipe as plug flow. The boundary layer is called slip layer as well, which reduced frictional pressure loss, increased the conveying distance and saved energy consequently. In order to find out the relationship between the properties of boundary layer and the pressure loss, the design of the liquid injection equipment was detailed in this paper. The liquid (such as water, oil or polymer sol… Show more

“…The larger the drag reducing agent polymer molecular weight, the better the drag reduction effect. 14,16 T 17 So PEO solution is selected as a kind of drag reducer. On account of the pressure loss declined at peak rate when lubrication layer's thickness goes from 0 to 1 mm, 14 so the boundary layer thickness controlled lower than 1 mm.…”

“…2.1 | Slip drag reduction test bed system LIE (liquid injection equipment) and "small-scale rheological and resistance characteristics test system" detailed in paper 14 were performed to inject liquids to the boundary layer manually in pipe. It includes computerised data acquisition system, and pipe transportation part, as shown in Figure 1.…”
