Experimental Performance of Recycled Aggregate Concrete-Filled Circular Steel Tubular Columns Subjected to Cyclic Flexural Loadings

Abstract: This paper is an attempt to study the cyclic performances of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC)-filled steel tubular columns. Thirteen specimens with circular section, including 10 RAC-filled steel tubular (RACFST) columns and 3 reference normal concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns, were tested under constant axial load and cyclically increasing flexural loadings. The parameters in the test are: (1) concrete type: normal concrete and recycled aggregate concrete; and (2) axial load ratio (n), from 0.05 t… Show more

“…A similar phenomenon on RACFSTs was also observed by Yang and Han [11]. For the convenience of comparison of the load capacity of the columns filled with RAC or GRC and normal concrete, the strength index SI is defined as [30]:…”

“…The elastic stages were conducted under the load levels of 0.4. 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0 P * y , where P * y was the estimated yield load and calculated by the Yang et al (2009). The inelastic stages were then taken to lateral displacement levels of 1.5∆ y , 2∆ y , 3∆ y , 4∆ y , 5∆ y , etc., where ∆ y was the yield displacement (∆ y equals to the corresponding lateral displacement of the P * y ).…”

“…These tests proved that both the strength and the deformation of RAC are significantly improved. Yang et al (2009) also performed an investigation on the seismic behaviors of 13 RCFS columns. It was concluded that the mechanical behaviors of RCFS columns are similar to those of normal concrete filled steel tube (CFST) specimens.…”

“…It was found that the modulus and strength were lower than those of ordinary concrete filled steel tubes (CFSTs). Yang [14] carried out studies on the RACFST stub columns and presented the stress-strain relationships of the confined RAC. Chen and Zeng [15] and Chen et al [16,17] studied the behaviour of 22 RACFSTs and developed an experimental model for calculating the axial loaddeformation relationship.…”
