Experimental investigation on thermal behavior of fly ash reinforced aluminium alloy (Al6061) hybrid composite

Abstract: In the present study, the thermal behavior of pure Al6061 and fly ash reinforced Al6061 with varying particulate sizes were investigated for the first time. Metal matrix syntactic foams of ceramic fly ash (4 – 16 wt. %) embedded in aluminum (Al6061) matrix have been fabricated by using stir casting technique with different fly ash particulate sizes of size below 50µm and 53µm-100µm, respectively. The microstructural characteristics were studied by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It has been observed … Show more

“…Although in many distinct schemes, hybrid composites can be generated, the most studies on their mechanical characteristics was restricted to the settings in which fibres were closely blended or purposely arranged within the matrix. A general rule of mixtures method may be used to quantify a material property with regard to volume concentration of its constituents when assessing the mechanical characteristics of hybrids [23,24]. In several lightweight and high-strength applications, hybrid composite materials effectively replaced traditional materials.…”

“…Aluminium is one of the most famous metals applied in various industry sectors and applications, for such building, machinery, packaging, automobile industry, and aerospace application. It is widely employed due to the excellent strength and high strength to density ratio properties, which able to enhance the crashworthiness and reduce the weight of the component [1,2]. For a pure aluminium combination, it has delicate and low-quality properties.…”
