Experimental investigation on the electrical explosion of single aluminum wire in vacuum

Abstract: The electrical explosion of single wire occurs in many application fields, such as wire-array Z-pinch, synthesis of the nanopowder, high-intensity magnetic field source, etc. The initial stage of the electrical explosion of single wire has a critical influence on the stagnation and X-ray yield in the wire-array Z-pinch. The impressive result of X-ray yield from wire-array Z-pinch is a major motivation to promote the research in this field. Although numerous studies have been carried out to gain a deep insight … Show more

“…Zhang Jiangbo [19] studied the effect of different diameter copper wire and titanium wire electric explosion on the ignition of nitroamine propellant. Shi Zongqian [20] has carried out the research on the electric explosion characteristics of aluminum mono lament under the action of negative current pulse, and obtained the typical energy deposition process of uncoated aluminum lament. The ow eld evolution law of gold wire electric explosion was obtained by using laser interferometry.…”

“…UV radiation images were compared with laser shadow and schlieren images, demonstrating the radiating region is occupied by a low-density plasma (n e < 10 18 cm −3 ) [19]. Wang et al recorded the streak image of the optical emission of an Al wire explosion in vacuum [22]. Barbaglia et al researched the relationship between electrical parameters and expansion behaviour of a Cu wire explosion in air [23].…”

“…Single-wire electrical explosion has been encountered in many physical fields, such as material property study under extreme conditions, [1] dense plasma generation, [2] and synthesis of nanopowder. [3] A better understanding of the physics of the single-wire electrical explosion is important for its effective utilization.…”
