Experimental investigation on ion-Bernstein waves propagation

Abstract: The IBW propagation is experimentally investigated in a steady-state toroidal plasma. IBW is indirectly excited by EPW conversion in lower hybrid resonance layer.I h e phenomenon is analysed in linear conditions, with respect to the relevant plasma parameten, as frequency and density profiles.

“…18 In the present paper, we perform an analysis of the turbulent transport of suprathermal ions within the Lévy walk framework. In particular, we consider suprathermal ions in the simple magnetized torus (SMT) configuration, [19][20][21][22][23][24] where a vertical magnetic field, B z , superimposed with a toroidal magnetic field, B / , creates helicoidal field lines terminating on the toroidal vessel. This configuration is of interest to the plasma turbulence and fusion communities, as it offers a relatively simple and well-diagnosed test bed in which to study a) Electronic mail: kyle.gustafson@epfl.ch.…”

“…The present work presents new experimental results on the generation of poloidal flows through ion Bernstein and lower hybrid waves (LHW). The experiments have been performed in the small toroidal Thorello device [14], producing magnetized toroidal plasmas without rotational transform. In the Thorello device the plasma and discharge parameters can be varied in quite a wide range, and a systematic analysis of the basic physical processes can be obtained.…”

“…The probes were able to measure the relative radial and axial electric field component profiles. They were made of two tungsten pins shielded and insulated by an alumina pipe [9,10]. The RF signals detected by the two pins were sent to a differential amplifier in order to obtain a signal proportional to the electric field.…”
