Experimental investigation of the effect of Reynolds number on flow structures in the wake of a circular parachute canopy

Abstract: In the present study, an experimental study was conducted to characterize the effect of Reynolds number on flow structures in the turbulent wake of a circular parachute canopy by utilizing stereoscopic particle image velocimetry (Stereo-PIV) technique. The parachute model tested in the present study was attached by 28 nylon suspension lines and placed horizontally at the test section center of the wind tunnel. The obtained results showed that with the increase of Reynolds number, the intensities of the vortice… Show more

“…The results illustrated that the geometry of parachutes had a considerable impact on the flow structure of the turbulent wake. Meanwhile, the Reynold number was pointed out that it did not affect the profile of velocity, vorticity and Reynolds number [10][11][12].…”

“…The Parachutes have been widely used with a variety of loads due to their abilities to slow the motion of an object through the atmosphere by creating drag forces [1,2]. To obtain the accurate aerodynamic characteristics of the parachute is very significant for its application, such as decreasing the landing velocities of aircraft and spacecraft [3,4].…”
