Experimental Investigation of Shear Strength of Solid Brick Urm Walls Retrofitted With TRM Jacket

Abstract: This study is part of an experimental program on full-scale strengthened Un-Reinforced Masonry (URM) walls with Textile reinforced mortars (TRM). Four solid brick walls (one control and three strengthened specimens with central opening), were tested under the diagonal tension (shear) test method in order to investigate the effectiveness of the strengthening system on the in-plane behavior of the walls. All the URM panels consist of solid bricks and a high strength binder mortar. Both of them have increased mec… Show more

“…The compression tests were performed by applying a compressive load in an ELLE press machine, with a loading rate of 0.01 mm/s (Figure 2a,b). The compressive load was applied uniaxially and monotonically [7,8]. To investigate the properties of the brick interface and, in particular, the bond to the binder material proposed for use in the construction of load-bearing masonry, three triplet specimens consisting of three bee bricks and two mortar joints with a layer thickness of 10 mm were constructed and subjected to a direct shear test without lateral compression, as indicated by EN 1052-3 [11] specifications (Figure 2c).…”

“…Capitalizing on the obtained data, they simulated the cyclic lateral behavior of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer bars as a longitudinal reinforcement in the beam using the finite element analysis software ABAQUS [10]. Regarding the simulation of other structural members, Thomoglou et al [11] implemented an intricate micro-nonlinear finite element model in ANSYS to simulate and validate the shear behavior of unreinforced masonry walls containing units, mortar, and fiber-reinforced composites with their complex interactions.…”
