Experimental Investigation of Different Extraction Methods for Producing Biofuel from Jatropha Seeds and Castor Seeds

Abstract: While energy production is highly dependent on fossil fuels, which consider the main source of global warming, biofuels would play a significant impact in diminishing such warming. In this paper, biooils were extracted from inedible seeds (Jatropha and Castor) using different continuous devices (solvents, screw presses, and hydraulic press-machines), aiming to achieve the highest oil’s yield of improved extraction properties at reduced time and energy. A wide range of engine speeds of 35, 60, 85, 110, and 135 … Show more

“…Environmental issues and lack of fuel supplies mean that it is an appropriate time to look into acceptable sustainable alternative fuels (Altun et al 2011;Hasanin et al 2022;Ibrahim S.M.A. et al 2017;Khalaf et al 2023;Khater et al 2023). Most research has concentrated on non-edible vegetable oils to produce biodiesel due to edible vegetable oils being costly (Galushchak et al 2023;Ibrahim M.M.…”

“…A high oil yield was obtained at a temperature of 175 • C and 135 rpm speed for Jatropha, while, for castor seed, a 250 • C preheating temperature with a 35 rpm screw rotation speed was optimal. The hydraulic press produces less oil from Jatropha and castor compared to other mechanical methods because of oil absorption [17]. Another common method used for extraction is solvent extraction, where n-hexane is employed.…”
