Experimental Investigation into Response of Circular Plates Subjected to Hydrodynamic Shock

Abstract: Abstract:In this paper, plastic deformation of the clamped mild steel and aluminum circular plates subjected to different hydrodynamic impact loading conditions are investigated. Extensive experimental tests were carried out by using a drop hammer. The experimental results presented in terms of central deflection of the plates, deflection profiles, and strain distributions. The effect of different parameters such as material properties, plate thickness, stand off distance of hammer or the transferred energy we… Show more

“…2 The primary researches in the field of impact mechanics were focused on the nonlinear dynamic behavior of simple structures subjected to high rate impact load. 3,4 High rate impact load is caused either by an object directly striking the sheet 5 or under the pressure wave created by a water shock tube. 3 Investigating the dynamic response of clamped structures under water-backed condition attracted a great amount of interest.…”

“…They examined the plastic deformation of copper plate under the pressure wave that was created by an aluminum tube of 1.3 m length and 32 mm internal diameter and the 74.1 kg/m 2 average mass per unit area which is released with 22.29 m/s initial speed. 5,6…”
