Experimental fixed and mobile multibeam satellite communications system

Abstract: M u l t i b e a m s a t e l l i t e c o m m u n i c a t i o n s systems are expected to play an important role in constructing economical and highly reliable communications networks in combination with terrestrial networks. They will provide a t t r a c t i v e n e w c o m m u n i c a t i o n s s e r v i c e s promptly and widely.NTT is making intensive efforts in the research and development of multibeam satellite communications systems and is planning to carry out flight vcrification of the system using Engi… Show more

“…In the satellite mobile communication systems, the multibeam also effectively increases the signal power flux density of the earth station by narrowing the beamwidth pattern. The increase of signal power flux density has an advantage, where the transmission capacity can be increased; thus, it can reduce the earth station size and be more economical [7]. For mobile earth and telecommunication base stations, conventional feed radiators such as horn, dipole, and phased array antennas have been used in the previous generation of mobile technology.…”

“…Degradation of beam isolation due to variation among HPA characteristics 2,3 , HPA arrangement methods that effectively improve beam isolation 4,5 , and a reliable configuration 6 have been investigated. Some MPAs have already been employed in commercial satellite mobile communications services [7][8][9] , and further developments are being made toward delivering higher output power and utilizing higher frequency bands 10 .…”
