A study conducted on the high-speed diesel engine (bore/stroke: 79.5/95.5 mm; 66 kW) running with microalgae oil (MAO100) and diesel fuel (D100) showed that, based on Wibe parameters (m and φz), the difference in numerical values of combustion characteristics was ~10% and, in turn, resulted in close energy efficiency indicators (ηi) for both fuels and the possibility to enhance the NOx-smoke opacity trade-off. A comparative analysis by mathematical modeling of energy and traction characteristics for the universal multi-purpose diesel engine CAT 3512B HB-SC (1200 kW, 1800 min−1) confirmed the earlier assumption: at the regimes of external speed characteristics, the difference in Pme and ηi for MAO100 and D100 did not exceeded 0.7–2.0% and 2–4%, respectively. With the refinement and development of the interim concept, the model led to the prognostic evaluation of the suitability of MAO100 as fuel for the FPT Industrial Cursor 13 engine (353 kW, 6-cylinders, common-rail) family. For the selected value of the indicated efficiency ηi = 0.48–0.49, two different combinations of φz and m parameters (φz = 60–70 degCA, m = 0.5 and φz = 60 degCA, m = 1) may be practically realized to achieve the desirable level of maximum combustion pressure Pmax = 130–150 bar (at α~2.0). When switching from diesel to MAO100, it is expected that the ηi will drop by 2–3%, however, an existing reserve in Pmax that comprises 5–7% will open up room for further optimization of energy efficiency and emission indicators.

MOKSLAS -LIETUVOS ATEITIS SCIENCE -FUTURE OF LITHUANIA ĮvadasVidaus degimo variklių (VDV) mokslinių tyrimų srityje jau ilgą laiką svarbią poziciją užima matematinis modeliavimas (MM), kuris leidžia supaprastinti bei palengvinti kompleksinį tyrimų procesą ir, atlikus pakeitimus, susijusius su VDV, prognozuoti pokyčio efekto rezultatus (Mollenhauer, Tschoeke 2010;Merker et al. 2006). Viena iš svarbiausių charakteristikų VDV tyrimų srityje yra slėgio pokyčio cilindre charakteristika (VDV indikatorinė diagrama), kuri, esant tiek vidiniams, tiek iš-oriniams pakitimams, atspindi cilindre vykstančius degimo proceso pokyčius, kurie tiesiogiai daro įtaką tiek energetiniams, tiek ekologiniams VDV darbo parametrams ir kt. Tačiau vykdant eksperimentinius tyrimus, ypač lauko (eksploatacijos) sąlygomis, indikatorinės diagramos fiksavimas yra sudėtingas, kitais atvejais neįmanomas, kaip ir alkūninio veleno pasisukimo kampo registravimas. Be to, ši įranga yra santykinai brangi ir turi ribotą panaudojimo resursą. Šiai dažnai kylančiai problemai spręsti siūloma panaudoti modeliavimą ir objektyvų (Mollenhauer, Tschoeke 2010) bei darbo proceso pokyčiams jautrų rodiklį -išmetamųjų dujų (ID) temperatūrą, kurios nustatymas reikalauja mažiau išlaidų bei paprastesnių konstrukcinių sprendimų.Nesant VDV indikatorinio slėgio duomenų registravimo galimybės, gali būti panaudojama MM programa IMPULS sprendžiant atvirkštinį uždavinį, t. y. remiantis šilumos iš-siskyrimo charakteristikos (HRC) duomenimis modeliuoti indikatorinę diagramą bei VDV darbo parametrus.AVL BOOST BURN programa apskaičiuotų preliminarių HRC formos parametro m ir HR trukmės φ z reikš-mių patikslintiems skaičiavimams panaudota MM programa IMPULS, kurioje HRC aprašoma pagal viengubą Vibe funkciją, kartu su modifikuotu T. Bulaty ir W. Glanzman pasiūlytu HR parametrų nustatymo metodu (Bulaty, Glanzman 1985).I. I. Vibe 1962 m. pasiūlė lengvai suprantamą ir praktiškai pritaikomą (derinant su eksperimentiniais duomenimis) HRC VDV cilindre aprašymo formą, kuri dėl savo patrauklumo naudojama ir šiuolaikiniuose matematinio modeliavimo paketuose. Taikant kitus matematinius modelius, reikia apskaičiuoti santykinius dydžius ir konstantas bei kriterinius parametrus pradinių duomenų bloko formavimo etape, šis veiksnys gali riboti praktinį modelio pritaikymą derinant su eksperimento duomenimis. The limited quantities of oil reserves and the exhaust emissions from IC engines have become a threat to the existence of IC engines. One of the best solutions to the problem is the use of alternative fuels. Hydrogen is an alternative fuel that is called a fuel of the future. A disadvantage of hydrogen is its high combustion speed. Experimental results were used for the determination of inputs for numerical analysis. The numerical analysis is performed for a 3D model of the engine in order to determine the working parameters of the engine (pressure and temperature). The main goal of this study is to investigate a possibility of modifying the diesel engine so that it can run on hydrogen. It was found that in such an engine the greatest loads occur in the combustion chamber; thus, the vital parts of the engine are protected. Therefore, a mechanical analysis of the combustion chamber was performed (calculation of stresses and deformations). The obtained results are encouraging because they indicate that by applying the presented solution a much cheaper technology than the modern diesel engine systems is made possible.
