Experimental Demonstration of Impairment-Aware PCE for Multi-Bit-Rate WSONs

Abstract: In emerging multi-bit-rate wavelength switched optical networks (WSONs), the coexistence of lightpaths operating at different bit-rates and modulation formats (e.g., based on amplitude and phase modulation) induces relevant traffic dependent detrimental effects that need to be considered during impairment-aware routing and wavelength assignment (IA-RWA). The considerable complexity of IA-RWA computation has driven the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to propose specific path computation element (PCE) arc… Show more

“…Works in [53]- [56] are focused on IV&RWA PCE for higher rates or multi bit-rate scenarios (e.g., 40 and 100 Gb/s). In [57], a study and a comparison on several QoTaware PCE architectures are carried out. In particular, authors show that IV-candidate+RWA architecture may experience a larger delay than IV&RWA because of the communication between IV PCE and RWA PCE.…”

“…In addition, novel dynamic lightpath provisioning in several MLR scenarios is investigated. The problem of IA-RWA in MLR Wavelength-Switched Optical Networks (WSONs) with two Path Computation Element (PCE) architectures is addressed in [11], and a novel PCE protocol extension is introduced. However, these two papers consider transparent First IEEE International Conference on Communications in China: Optical Networks and Systems (ONS) 978-1-4673-2815-9/12/$31.00 ©2012 IEEE networks without regenerators.…”
