Experimental characterization of traditional composites manufactured by vacuum‐assisted resin‐transfer molding

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The primary purpose of this study is to investigate the anisotropic behavior of different glass-fabric-reinforced polyester composites. Two commonly used types of traditional glass fabrics, woven roving fabric and chopped strand mat, have been used. Composite laminates have been manufactured by the vacuum infusion of polyester resin into the fabrics. The effects of geometric variables on the composite structural integrity and strength are illustrated. Hence, tensile and three-point-bending flexural te… Show more

“…The strengths in ± 45 ° are 1360 kgf/cm 2 and slightly greater than in the main directions. The results disagree with the study [24] . This may be because the different interlaced and braided structure of the fabric is present between them.…”

“…The vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) technology is well established for the fabrication of highperformance composites based on synthetic fiber, such as fiberglass or carbon fibers (Moriia et al 2001;Shih et al 2001;Cecen and Sarikanat 2008;Halimi et al 2012;Menta et al 2013). Generally, the VARTM technology is suitable to produce large-scale components but not small samples.…”

“…For metals and composites, tensile tests have been used as a standard testing to evaluate the mechanical properties like tensile and Young's modulus and compare qualitatively with different materials. The mechanical property of composites show different characteristics based on types of fiber/matrix (Ma et al, 2017;Ma et al, 2018;Turla et al,2014), Nano-addition (Agarwal et al, 2014;Zhang et al, 2019;Xu & Hoa, 2008), interface bonding (Liu et al, 2014;Li et al,2013), applied methods (Sahin, 2021;Cecen &Sarıkant, 2008), stacking sequence (Ary Subagia et al, 2014;Zhang et al, 2012;Yusuff et al, 2021), orientation effect (Rahmani et al, 2012;Kaleemulla & Siddeswarappa,2010;Agrawal & Bhattacharya, 2021;GuruRaja & HariRao,2013) and characterization (Shokrieh &Omidi, 2009;Paive et al, 2006;Cecen & Sarıkanat, 2008;Pandy et al, 2011) in making composites.…”
