Experimental and theoretical studies on bis[μ-2-methoxy-N′-(2-oxidobenzoyl)benzohydrazidato(3-)]dipyridinetricopper(II)

Abstract: A novel homotrinuclear pyridine Schiff base copper(II) compound, [Cu 3 (C 15 H 11 N 2 O 4 ) 2 (C 5 H 5 N) 2 ], has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and X-ray single crystal deterimination. X-ray structural determination reveals that each copper(II) ion has a distorted square-planar geometry. The central copper ion is coordinated by two O and two N atoms from two Schiff base ligands, while each terminal copper ion is coordinated by one N and two O atoms of one Schiff base ligand and by … Show more

“…The size of the ring of the metallamacrocycle can be tuned by varying the steric volume of the N-acyl residue of the ligand. Linear trinuclear compounds can be obtained when bivalent metal ions such as Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) were used [4,[12][13][14][30][31][32][33][34].…”

Linear trinuclear compounds can be obtained when bivalent metal ions such as Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) were used [4,[12][13][14][30][31][32][33][34].In contrast to N-acyl-salicylhydrazide ligands which contain only one salicylhydrazide group, the ligands derived from the acylation of multi-carboxyl acid and salicylhydrazide, which contain two or more salicylhydrazide groups, have never been used in the synthesis of the coordination compound. This type of ligand possesses much more coordination sites, which may be more favorable for the construction of polynuclear complexes.…”
