Experimental and Numerical Investigation on Seismic Performance of a Hybrid RC Frame System with Stiffened Masonry Wall

Abstract: This paper presents an experimental and numerical study on a new hybrid structural system with RC frame and stiffened masonry wall. Summarily, four different connection types between frames and reinforced masonry walls were divided in this investigation. Firstly, construction for different connecting modes were described in detail and then tests of four specimens under reciprocating load were carried out to study the influence of connection modes on failure modes and hysteretic response. Results reveal that al… Show more

“…In the seismic design of reinforced concrete houses, in addition to rational structure selection and correct structural measures, more attention should be paid to conceptual design. e goal of the dual-line-of-defense seismic design of super high-rise buildings is to make the overall structure play a role in dissipating seismic energy, avoiding sensitive weak parts of the structure, leading to premature failure of super high-rise buildings [6][7][8].…”

“…Five distinct in-plane failure mode categories are identified in the infilled frames [19]. Firstly, frame failure modes consist of the formation of plastic hinges in the beams and columns near the joints, the failure of beam-column joints, or, in very few cases, at the column mid-height.…”

“…The last of the approaches that is more precise is the micro-model, which is summed up by considering all the details of the masonry infill wall of the mortar, blocks, whether concrete or brick, as well as the interaction between the wall and the surrounding frame [16,19]. In the following section, we have carried out a parametric study by analyzing several models of a two-dimensional multistoried reinforced concrete frame using the nonlinear static pushover method « pushover ».…”
