Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Friction Coefficient and Wear Volume in the Mixed-Film Lubrication Regime with ZnO Nano-Particle

Abstract: One of the most important challenges industry has always been facing is the wear phenomenon. Wear is the cause of huge deteriorations in parts and results in a drop in performance and lifetime of different machines. Therefore, finding solutions to reduce friction coefficient and wear is of special importance. The present research aims at numerical and experimental investigation of friction coefficient and wear in the presence of nano-lubricants. In the numerical section, to tackle different scales of contact c… Show more

“…[1][2][3][4] Various types of nanoparticles made of metallic, organic, and inorganic materials have been used by researchers to develop nanolubricants. [5][6][7][8] Among all these additives, Graphene Oxide (GO) can be obtained easily from graphite making it a potential candidate to be used in industrial units.…”

“…14 Various types of nano-particles made of metallic, organic, and inorganic materials have been used by researchers to develop nano-lubricants. 58 Among all these additives, Graphene Oxide (GO) can be obtained easily from graphite making it a potential candidate to be used in industrial units. Graphene is a two-dimensional material and has shown unique friction and wear properties including high load-bearing limit, low shear stress, and weak Van der Waals forces between the layers.…”

“…Contact between two rough surfaces can be equivalent to contact between a hemisphere and a rigid flat [11][12][13]. The study of elastic-plastic contact behavior between hemisphere and a rigid flat is of great significance to the analysis of electrical contact [14][15][16][17], friction [18,19], and wear [20,21] between two rough surfaces.…”

“…The piston-rings pack's primary function is to prevent lubricant oil consumption and combustion chamber gas leakage (Ahmed Ali et al 2016;Sohrabiasl et al 2017). In other words, aside from the sealing process the piston reciprocating movement presents a challenge for investigators and engine manufacturers due to difficulties in controlling friction and wear (Rahmani et al 2017;Gholami et al 2020;Saligheh et al 2020).…”
