Experimental and Numerical Evaluation of Perfobond Rib Shear Connectors Embedded in Recycled Aggregate Concrete

Abstract: In this paper, the use of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) for the upper slabs in steel-concrete composite beams is proposed. Perfobond rib connector (PBL), a relatively new type of shear connectors, has been widely used to ensure composite action between the steel and concrete elements in composite beams. For the past decades, several studies on assessing the performance of PBLs have been conducted, but very few focused on the PBLs that are embedded in RAC slabs. is paper presents results of an experimental … Show more

“…The results of the theoretical and experimental studies of Zhang et al [43][44] on PBL connectors in groups for the internal force transfer mechanism revealed the uneven distribution of forces in the elastic stage and even plastic deformation. Yu et al [45] assessed the act of PBL connectors encased in recycled aggregate concrete slabs for strength appraisal of connection. Su et al [46] presented a new push-out testing system while assessing the behaviour of perfobond rib connectors to isolate the effect of friction and specimen size on structural performance by using PBL.…”

“…The mechanical properties of RAC were widely reported in recent years [5][6][7][8]. Zheng C, et al [9] investigated that the effect of the replacement of natural aggregate (NA) with either RCA or RBA on the compressive strength of concrete.…”
